“I found this hanging from the basement rafters of my 100 year old house. It appears to be two marbles or something similar in a hanger of some sort. Any one have a clue what this could be?”

Wooh thank goodness it’s only a bar towel holder. I was thinking for a second. It was something more devious.

Towel holder in a bar, or elsewhere. They would be used to clamp onto a bar rag, for the bar tenders to wipe their hands. I remember seeing many of these in old, rural bars (my favorite places to visit) since the late 1970’s. But because of the utilitarian use, I can see them being used in any place where a quick place to wipe your hands on a towel would have been useful.

Looks like a drying implement for paper or photography…

Looks like click clacks. Very popular toy in the 60’s.

Maybe something they would hang in their pickup?

Looks kind of like “clackers” that were popular in the 1970s, until people playing with them kept getting injuries.

Those were the best! We all would stand around with them, the fastest to get them clacking would win. As far as dangerous, probably on the same level as lawn darts.

Towel holder. Clamps down. Towel in middle. Need your towel, grab and go. My grandma had these in her kitchen.
